Accidentally hitched to a dream. Now for the
catch…
I didn’t even say “I do.”
One crank call and I’m insta-wife to a tattooed
behemoth and mother to his kids.
He’s paying my idiot boss a fortune for the
perfect lie.
Because trouble found Miller Rush, and he found
me.
A rock hard, overprotective rebel with a cause.
Father of the century.
Abs wound tighter than his attitude.
A broodylicious bull stomping around my house,
barking orders.
Something’s got to give, okay?
But it won’t be me.
Not my courage, even when my nosy mother smells
drama.
Not my heart set on helping two little angels
and their perma-grump dad.
Definitely not my body screaming Mayday because
his bedroom eyes are magnets.
Deep breath.
It’s only a few weeks.
It’s only a whole mess of freaky secrets.
It’s only pretend and I’m so not letting
Miller run off with my heart.
Riiight. Why didn’t anyone warn me some knots
can’t be untied?

Review
I’ve reviewed a couple of Nicole Snow’s books before, and when I got the opportunity to review this one thanks to Xpresso Book Tours I more or less knew what to expect. Accidental Rebel has shady pseudo-military folks doing shady things shadily, just like in No Good Doctor and Accidental Knight. There was murder – hooray! There was a big burly man hero, complete with tattoos (as in Accidental Knight), an innocent heroine (both), and a mother who interfered with things she probably shouldn’t have.
Personally, I liked Accidental Rebel much more than I liked either of the other books. Miller is big, burly, and kind of demanding, but his reasons for behaviors that would otherwise piss me off are understandable and his behavior is never over the top. Gwen, the heroine, is competent, funny, and brave. The mother interferes, but sometimes she’s helpful and sometimes she’s funny. There are villains who are straight up vile and side characters who are funny but so sleazy you want to burn your clothes after contact with them.
The book involves children. Miller shows up with two ten-year-olds in tow. My kid is close to their age and as a hockey mom I spend a good amount of time with kids in that age bracket, of all genders, so I feel confident in knowing what to expect. Miller’s kids are good (by which I mean they’re good kids, not the obnoxious set of brothers on my kid’s hockey team that spends more time punching each other than practicing or playing the game) and they read naturally. They’re not too precious, they behave naturally, and they’re not infantilized either. And because they’re ten, they don’t get in the way of the romance as they would in a story with an actual baby.
The suspense aspect of this book is sharp and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, even though it follows similar lines to Snow’s other books. That’s a wonderful talent, and I admire the skill it takes to be able to pull that off.
My biggest issue with this book is in the sex scenes. Some of them were okay. Some of them were truly cringey. I don’t want to yuk anyone’s yum, but some body parts only work one way. Like hair. It can take a person out of the scene – and well out of the mood – when they have to pause and think, Wait, how did they – but no – wait –
But sex scenes are like icing on a cake. They’re good to have, and they draw the eye, but the important parts are the characters and the plot. (And the murder.) Accidental Rebel does a great job with all of the above.
